Kiel/ Rostock. The Kiel-based Ocean Big Data specialist north.io is accompanying the SeaSEC Challenge Weeks "Data2Sea2026" from 13 to 24 April 2026 in the Bay of Rostock as an integral part of the functional and organizational team for the first time. In contrast to the previous international exercise REPMUS (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping using Maritime Uncrewed Systems) 2025 in Portugal, north.io is not participating this time as an applicant or demonstrator, but is providing its globally unique Ocean Data Platform (ODP) technology for the technical consolidation and evaluation of all sensor data during the maneuver.
As part of the Challenge Weeks, north.io is taking on a central role in data fusion: sensor data from numerous different systems is merged, synchronized and analysed in a so-called Data Fusion Cell. The aim is to generate a common and reliable picture of the situation from the heterogeneous data sources in order to acceleratedecision-making by government agencies.
SeaSEC and the Northern Naval Capability Cooperation (NNCC)
SeaSEC (Seabed Security Experimentation Center) is part of the Northern Naval Capability Cooperation (NNCC), which was officially ratified in Washington in December 2023. Within this framework, six Northern European countries - Denmark, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden - are intensifying their cooperation in the field of maritime infrastructure and security capabilities.
The aim of the initiative is to pool industrial, police, military and technological expertise and jointly develop sustainable systems for the protection of maritime critical infrastructure.
SeaSEC activities focus on the protection of Critical Underwater Infrastructure (CUI). Public, private, police and military partners are jointly investigating how data cables, port entrances and energy platforms in the North and Baltic Seas can be protected against attacks in a more resilient manner in future. This is a new public-private partnership approach that systematically brings togetherpolice and military situational awareness, civilian sensor data and industrial expertise.
Focus on Rostock 2026: Protection of critical underwater infrastructure
The SeaSEC Challenge Weeks "Data2Sea2026" in the Bay of Rostock are designed as maritime trials under real-life conditions. The focus is on
- the detection and classification of threats to submarine cables, platforms and harbor entrances
- the coordinated use of autonomous systems (UxV) above, on and under water
- the integration of heterogeneous sensor technology (including sonar, radar, optical systems),
- the development of data-driven, interoperable situational awareness for the protection of maritime infrastructure.
The north.io Ocean Data Platform makes it possible to centrally collect and process sensor data from various sources and make it available for analysis and situational awareness.

Outlook
Participation in SeaSEC underlines north.io's role as a technology partner for maritime data integration in international testing and innovation formats. The Ocean Data Platform was already used during the REPMUS 2025 exercise in Portugal to merge and analyze sensor data from different systems.
In the future, north.io will continue to contribute its expertise in data-driven platform solutions to support maritime security and infrastructure projects with powerful data integration.
