National Maritime Conference: Marispace-X provides Key to the Blue Data Economy

Marispace-X at the National Maritime Conference in Bremen: Promoting the Blue Data Economy and data sharing for the maritime industry

Bremen/Kiel 13.09.2023 . Kiel-based cloud-geodata-specialist north.io, as the responsible coordinator, together with consortium partner Kiel University and Gaia-X Hub Germany, will present the Marispace-X project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action (BMWK), at this year's National Maritime Conference (NMK) at the Congress Centrum Bremen.

The event on September 14 and 15, 2023, is under the patronage of the German Chancellor and is the German government's central event for promoting the maritime economy. It gathers around 800 experts from the maritime industry, including the Navy Command of the German Navy | Marinekommando Deutsche Marine, the Gesellschaft Für Maritime Technik E.V. and the OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE Foundation. This makes this 13th NMK the largest meeting of the maritime industry in Germany.

"We are very pleased to be able to present a Marispace-X booth alongside nearly a dozen other exhibitors at the show",

says Jann Wendt, managing director of north.io and coordinator of Marispace-X.
According to Wendt, Marispace-X's participation in this prestigious conference underscores the importance of the largest industry-driven maritime digitization project for the development of the maritime data economy of the future.

"The secure exchange of data through Marispace-X forms the basis for maritime digital business models, enables new forms of digital value creation and creates future high-tech jobs in the maritime economy in Germany,"

Wendt states.

In addition, Wendt emphasizes, the secure and sovereign exchange of maritime data is a prerequisite for the creation of an overarching common maritime situation picture in order to better protect critical infrastructures off the German and European coasts in the future.
The Marispace-X project coordinated by north.io aims to digitize maritime value chains and develop a maritime data economy.  Thanks to Marispace-X, companies and authorities in the industry will be able to store their valuable underwater measurement data securely and efficiently in a cloud environment in the future, and exchange and analyze it as needed. This will make the project a driver of change in the maritime industry and make an important contribution to its future viability, says Wendt.
In this context, Wendt emphasizes the importance of events such as the National Maritime Conference: the NMK offers an optimal platform for exchanging ideas with all players in the industry and politics, forging new partnerships, sharing ideas and helping to shape the future of the maritime industry.

Background to Marispace-X

Marispace-X is a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection in the context of Gaia-X. The goal is to build a maritime data ecosystem that allows stakeholders from business, science, government and NGOs to securely manage, distribute and analyze data collected about and from the ocean based on European standards and values, and to use this data to gain new insights and develop new innovative solutions and services in the future.

By developing this digital ocean ecosystem, the project consortium addresses several key challenges of this decade, such as climate change, marine conservation and digital transformation through numerous practical use cases, including: Offshore Wind, Biological Climate Protection, Munitions in the Ocean, the Internet of Underwater Things, and Critical Infrastructure Protection.

The project consortium is led by cloud geo specialist north.io and cloud provider IONOS. Consortium partners in addition are Fraunhofer IGD, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Stackable GmbH, Kiel University and the University of Rostock. The involvement of numerous other international associated partners and maritime stakeholders ensures application-oriented development in all areas.
