The Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment, and Nature (MEKUN) will be using the TrueEarth platform from north.io in the future.

Kiel. The Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (MEKUN) is introducing the web-based platform technology TrueEarth from Kiel-based software developer north.io to manage, search and provide large amounts of spatial data and to expand state-wide collaboration with data .

During their regular data surveys in Schleswig-Holstein, surveillance aircraft regularly record the current state of the seas and coasts. This involves collecting huge amounts of data in the form of 3D laser scans and aerial images, which are highly complex to handle. Managing and sharing this data with subordinate authorities, research projects, external service providers and other stakeholders is still a very difficult, manual and therefore time-consuming task due to the large amount of data. "Up to now, we have stored our data on servers, which we then have to manually collect and hand over to users separately for processing," says Tobias Kuring, responsible for digitalization at MEKUN. "The use of north.io's cloud-based technologies not only allows us to significantly speed up our work processes and procedures by providing data centrally, but also to access data easily by visualizing 2D and 3D data without complex special software. Our goal is to become a pioneer in the digitalization of work and data management processes, and the integration of north.io's solution will take us a big step forward. "

The TrueEarth geodata hub from north.io creates extensive added value at MEKUN:

  • Efficient data work via seamless data management and intuitive provision of relevant geodata
  • Faster retrieval of geodata and documents via automated localization
  • Seamless connection to the environmental portal of the state of Schleswig-Holstein via the metadata catalog

"It is important that our platform is now being used to optimize administrative work processes in order to improve environmental protection through simplified data access," says Jann Wendt, founder and Managing Director of north.io, and adds: "The provision of spatial data via a central data platform will enable different geodata experts and decision-makers to develop evidence-based strategies based on the same data in the future. In the future, this system, which can be flexibly expanded, will even enable data volumes that are 50 to 100 times the current volume.

"
The spatial search function in particular now makes it possible to use a wide range of geodata types and speeds up work with the data enormously. Thisdata can laterbe merged with other data, such as measurement data, to gain insights into the condition of or physical changes to coastal areas, allowing us to react quickly in critical cases such as flooding and share data with the relevant safety stakeholders," explains Wendt.
