In the North and Baltic Seas alone, there are around 1.6 million tons of munitions from the Second World War. Even today, this ammunition poses a major safety risk and is also a great danger to the environment.
Jann Wendt has been working for several years in his company north.io to find these munitions with the help of data analyses. He has contributed his experience to the Marispace-X project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action to demonstrate the benefits of the European cloud initiative Gaia-X.
In an interview with Andreas Maurer, Jann Wendt talks about how the project came about, how difficult it is to bring together many partners from different fields and how the cloud can help in the analysis of marine data.
