2022: Putting Offshore Big Data in the Spotlight
Having established TrueOcean in November 2019, our focus in the early years was of course on developing our Marine Data Platform (MDP) in line with...
Last month’s WindEnergy Hamburg conference and exhibition presented an opportunity to understand the state of an industry undergoing massive growth. We were excited to be exhibiting there for the first time, especially as the acquisition and management of subsea marine data is such an essential aspect at all stages of the wind farm lifecycle.
An air of positivity filled the halls as the global wind energy supply chain gathered at the Hamburg Messe for the first time in four years. More than 1400 exhibitors from 37 countries took part in the event, which attracted around 30,000 visitors from 92 countries. It was certainly a diverse meeting point for the global industry, with representatives from every type of supplier you can imagine.
Digitalization was a hot topic throughout the conference and around the exhibition halls, with a growing understanding that contractors, service providers and energy companies must use the cloud to effectively deliver under new growth initiatives like the German government’s Easter Package, which earlier this year approved an additional 30 GW of wind power in the North Sea and Baltic Sea by 2030 alone.
“While the unprecedented expansion of offshore wind energy capacity is wholly positive, it was clear at WindEnergy Hamburg that the offshore contracting sector, including marine survey, may struggle to meet future demand,” said Jann Wendt, Founder of TrueOcean. “We are confident however, that cloud data management, alongside distributed remote working and autonomous operations will enable survey companies to leverage the exciting new prospects ahead.”
The TrueOcean booth at WindEnergy Hamburg was located in the Young Innovative Companies pavilion, so we were surrounded by expert teams working on disruptive solutions that will contribute to optimizing the European and global energy transition. Our new cloud platform, a safe and secure digital workspace for the acquisition, management and analysis of data acquired during marine surveys at offshore wind farms was the perfect fit in these surroundings.
The system is designed to unlock greater collaboration and accelerate project efficiency, both of which are key to the marine survey sector meeting the huge demand from new wind farms being built in the next five to ten years.
“We had a successful week at WindEnergy Hamburg, with super relevant contacts and discussions about the game-changing opportunities of digital transformation in Geo data processing,” said Frithjof Hennemann, CEO, TrueOcean. “The atmosphere was very positive, and it was great to see a shift from discussing what can be done to cut carbon emissions, to focusing on delivering the solutions that will actually make it happen.”
