Looking back at the Digital Summit: A successful participation for north.io

Kiel/Jena, Germany. The German government's two-day Digital Summit, which took place in Jena on 20 and 21 November 2023, marked a milestone for north.io. Jann Wendt, CEO of north.io, was one of only three exhibitors to present a pioneering exhibit, which was introduced by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Economics Minister Robert Habeck and Digital Minister Volker Wissing as a prime example of maritime digital innovation.

In his role as initiator and coordinator of Marispace-X, Jann Wendt presented the so-called Chancellor Exhibit. The largest European maritime data space project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), aims to develop cloud-based technologies to make maritime data more accessible. The focus here is on use cases such as the fight against climate change, the energy transition in the offshore wind sector and the removal of old munitions from the sea. In particular, the protection of critical infrastructures is now also increasingly coming into focus.

The focus of the presentation at the Digital Summit was on the offshore wind use case, which, due to its relevance and topicality, was in line with the summit's theme for the year: "Digital transformation at the turn of an era. Sustainable. Resilient. Future-orientated."

Platform and driver of the digital transformation

Every year, the Digital Summit attracts experts and innovators from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in digitalisation and technology. In addition to Federal Chancellor Scholz and the organising federal ministers Dr Robert Habeck (BMWK) and Dr Volker Wissing (Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport), numerous other federal ministers and high-ranking representatives from business, science and civil society are expected to attend. As a platform for shaping the digital awakening, the Digital Summit claims to be a driving force, driver and showcase for digitalisation in Germany and worldwide.

Outstanding exhibits

In addition to Marispace-X, other innovative technologies and products were presented at the summit. Other exhibitors included Smart Glass from Carl Zeiss AG and Evidir from Jenoptik AG. These technologies illustrate the diversity and progress of digitalisation and its transformative power in various industries.

"We were proud to present Marispace-X at the Digital Summit in Jena and take the opportunity to share our vision for the future of the Blue Data Economy," says Wendt. "Our solutions are of global importance for the security and protection of our maritime resources and critical infrastructure. The aim is to accelerate the process chains of the offshore industry so that large-scale, highly complex digital underwater data can be processed. We will also protect critical underwater infrastructure using artificial intelligence and involve European partners. Our common goal in the medium term should therefore be a national maritime data space that makes us more resilient and at the same time promotes the blue data economy," adds Wendt.

Participating in the Digital Summit was an insightful and successful experience for north.io. It not only allowed us to showcase our work, but also to make valuable contacts and drive forward our vision for the future of maritime digitalisation and the blue data economy.
