Schleswig-Holstein is a pioneer in digitalization in Germany. In a new documentary series, ZDF sports journalist Alex Ruda explores the concrete application of artificial intelligence (AI) in his home state. In three short films, Ruda investigates the benefits of AI for the people of Schleswig-Holstein and how it can transform their daily lives. The films are available at schleswig-holstein.de/realitycheck.
A focal point of the documentary is the work of north.io. As a Kiel-based geodata cloud specialist, we have developed an innovative method to locate military remnants in the North and Baltic Seas using AI. Our CEO, Jann Wendt, shows Alex Ruda how we use historical documents and deep learning algorithms to accurately detect munitions, allowing authorities to safely neutralize them.
The use of AI in munitions clearance significantly contributes to safety and environmental protection. Decaying depth charges and other munitions pose a threat to marine ecosystems and human life. north.io utilizes advanced technologies to identify and eliminate these dangers, which earned us the 2021 "Best of Digitales.SH" digitalization award.
In the documentary, Alex Ruda speaks with experts and showcases practical applications of AI in munitions clearance. Digitization Minister Dirk Schrödter explains the role of digitization in this process, while Jann Wendt elaborates on the technical details and advantages of north.io's AI-driven approaches.
