When NATO gathered thousands of participants for REPMUS & Dynamic Messenger 2025 off the Portuguese coast, the focus was clear: testing how autonomous systems and digital innovation can strengthen maritime security.
For north.io, the exercises provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the impact of our technology. At the heart of our contribution was the Ocean Data Platform – a solution designed to manage, process, and visualize massive amounts of ocean data.
Traditionally, the evaluation of sonar and sensor data is one of the biggest challenges in mine countermeasures (MCM). Processing terabytes of information often took days or even weeks, delaying critical decisions at the command level.
During REPMUS 2025, our Ocean Data Platform showed that things can be different:
As Commander Andreas Montag, the Mine Countermeasures Commander Task Unit during the exercise, summarized:
“The Ocean Data Platform was the missing piece. It allowed us to bring sensor data directly into the staff picture with unprecedented speed and precision.”
The results didn’t just impress naval operators. They demonstrated how digital innovation from northern Germany can decisively shape the future of maritime security in NATO operations.
“We have proven how innovative and functional our technology can be – and that young, dynamic companies can make a substantial contribution to the future of naval capabilities,” said Jann Wendt, CEO of north.io.
REPMUS – which stands for “Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems” – is one of NATO’s largest innovation testbeds. In 2025, the exercise once again confirmed that Big Data and AI approaches are key to creating a ‘transparent ocean’, where threats can be detected, classified, and neutralized faster than ever before.
For NATO and its member states, this means safer sea lanes, stronger protection of critical subsea infrastructure, and greater resilience in times of crisis.
north.io is proud to be part of this transformation - turning days into minutes, and data into decisions.
